Les Jeux de Montréal were established in 1978, in the wake of the Montreal 1976 Summer Olympics. The Games are a large, official, and festive multi-sports event organized for 6 to 12 year olds.

Over half a million young athletes from Montreal had their first taste of sporting competition at the Montreal Games since the first edition in 1978. Some have even gone on to become Olympians!
