A power sport in which competitors lift weights on a steel barbell. It requires technique, speed, flexibility, coordination, and balance. In competition, weightlifters perform two lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. Competitors have three attempts at each lift. The competitors’ best attempts at the snatch and the clean and jerk are combined to give their overall scores. The competitors with the best overall score in their respective weight categories win the competition.
The mission of the Association montréalaise d’haltérophilie et d’entraînement de la force sportive (AMHEFS) is to support the next generation of weightlifters, facilitate access to weightlifting, and promote the discipline in Montreal.
