Sport presentation
An ice sport in which competitors skate around an oval track marked on an ice rink as quickly as possible in order to cover a pre-established distance. The most common distances are 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m (for women only), 5,000m, and 10,000m, however, sometimes other distances are also contested. Skaters participate in singles or team competitions (relays). The fastest skater or team wins the race.
Sport Association
The Association Régionale de Patinage de Vitesse de Montréal (ARPVM) is a non-profit organization. The mission of the ARPVM is to promote speed skating in Montreal, to bring together the region’s clubs, and to represent the interests of the sport before the municipal government and the sports commissions of its member clubs.
